Local Government Elections this coming Saturday 9th September.
A final reminder to all residents that voting for our local government councillors is on this Saturday 9th September.  Click here  to access the NSW Government website if you want to know when and where to vote.

The Trust held its traditional ‘Meet the Candidates’ evening on Tuesday 29th August and had a very good turnout with over 120 attendees.  We invited Hornsby Council’s C Ward candidates, as well as Parramatta Council’s Epping Ward candidates. With the Hornsby mayoral candidates as well, there were 13 candidates speaking. No surprise that the State Government council amalgamation process produced a healthy debate between the Parramatta and Hornsby candidates.  I won’t comment on their performances, as it would not be appropriate but the night provided those who did attend a useful insight into the views, values and effectiveness of the prospective candidates. What I will say though, is that it was pleasing to see such a strong representation of women standing for the various positions, including three women for the Hornsby Council’s Mayoral position.

At the public meeting I touched on how the amalgamation process has also created a logistical problem for the Trust that we had not envisaged. In the future the Trust will have its hands full communicating with two councils, now that close to a third of Beecroft is under Parramatta Council’s control.  The Trust committee can’t afford to sit back and expect matters to continue as they have in the past.  There is a real threat that the Trust will lose contact with our loyal residents south of the M2 motorway. We must be proactive in offering our services to these residents and that will also mean residents in the Parramatta Council area joining the Trust’s committee. We currently have two vacancies on the committee so now is as good a time as any to join the committee.

Our southern neighbouring civic trust in Epping will have a similar logistical problem, having a responsibility to serve residents in North Epping who are still within Hornsby Council while the bulk of their residents are in Parramatta Council.

In a way it is timely - below you will see an article promoting Dorothy Doolan’s Ray Park Heritage Group activity this coming weekend.  Dorothy is an asset to the local community and has managed to get Parramatta Council and even some local businesses to support her group.  I ask you to support the local community and visit Ray Park this weekend.  Local residents like Dorothy keep our community spirit alive.

The Trust’s Enews is continuing to work well, developing into an excellent medium for conveying information to the local community.  Residents are being informed of issues relevant to Beecroft and Cheltenham in a timely manner and in a way that the old printed bulletin was unable to achieve. I again encourage recipients of the Enews to pass on our details to your friends and neighbours, who you believe will be interested in receiving our Enews.  As of last week we have over 1000 email addresses on our database but there are still 60% of 2119 residents who are not as yet benefitting from receiving our eNews.

We have had to establish a new website as the old one had become dysfunctional with emails not working. With various security constraints attached to the old site, we found it easier to walk away from 2119.org and create a new  bcct2119.com.au  website.  If anyone has tried to contact me at the old email address and has received no reply, that is the reason.
My new email address is president@bcct2119.com.au .

NorthConnex Urban Design and Landscape Plan Stage Two.
Some residents would have received the following email.
"Stage Two of the draft Urban Design and Landscape Plan (UDLP) for the NorthConnex project has been prepared for community consultation, in accordance with the Minister’s Conditions of Approval. This plan outlines the urban landscape and design principles for the project, illustrates how the new design elements of the project will look and was developed based on the preliminary designs presented in the Environmental Impact Statement for the project.
Stage Two of the UDLP includes the tunnel design, and architectural and landscape design of operational ancillary facilities such as the ventilation outlets and service buildings. It provides an opportunity to comment on the visual features of the tunnel and tolling structures as well as landscaping, materials, colours and sustainability of the operational facilities. Community feedback on Stage One of the UDLP resulted in changes in colour and translucency of noise walls.
It is on public display until Saturday 30
th September and available for viewing at www.northconnex.com.au/UDLP. A hard copy is also available at:

The eNews letter is available to all who subscribe.  Trust Membership is not a requirement.
At this stage, the Trust will continue to distribute the printed bulletin as not everyone uses the internet.
We are also looking for volunteers who like walking who may be able to distribute approximately 100 Bulletins a couple of times per year, as this is all done by kind members of our community. If you are able to help out, even as an occasional fill in person, please contact trish@bcct2119.com.au.
